January 4, 2010 - FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS SELECTS CII

Tallahassee, FL (January 4, 2010) -- Florida’s First Responders need reliable and assured radio communications. As such, the Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) will replace their obsolete radio equipment to provide officers with new mission critical radio technology.

The FDOC issued a $3.7 million dollar contract to Florida-based CII (Communications International, Inc.) for the design, installation, implementation and testing of new P25 radio systems at 20 of its facilities throughout Northern Florida.

Using Harris 800MHz P25 standards technology, CII will provide FDOC officers with enhanced radio coverage as well as new safety features such as Caller ID and Emergency Alert. “We are implementing these systems with Harris P25 radios since they will  operate on any manufacturers’ P25 systems and can be programmed to operate on Florida’s Statewide Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS) as well.” said Rick Rewiski, Special Projects Manager, CII.

Slated for completion in mid 2010, the FDOC’s new P25 radio systems will be compatible with existing P25 radio systems at FDOC institutions already implemented by CII. CII has proven their abilities to implement radio systems in challenging environments like correctional facilities” said Rick, “these new systems are an important step towards the FDOC’s goal of providing its officers with the communication tools they need to communicate reliably during normal operations and emergencies.”
